A ‘Maker’ can be any person or group who invents, designs, creates, and/or builds objects or information systems with the goal of learning, teaching, inspiring, or improving the state of the world.
Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafter, educators, tinkers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, anthers, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. all of these “makers” come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.
Let’s watch what is Maker Faire. ( Maker Faire Bay Area 2012)
The maker movement is now spreading around the world. Please see all the Mini Maker Faires around the world and the world largest Maker Faire in US Bay Area . In Asia regions, ( Australia , New Zealand, China (Shenzhen), Korea, Japan, Singapore) Maker Faires have been or will be launched in variety of scales. Now the Maker Movement also belongs to the kids.
In Hong Kong, most people buy things off the shelves for convenience’s sake. It is rare to hear of people who create and invent things, but that doesn’t mean there are none. Most makers in Hong Kong are working individually. Having inspired by some of the makers and organized the first Hong Kong Mini Maker Faire, we hope to gather makers together and promote the maker and DIY culture through the event.
We will start the Maker Faire in small scale and hope it will be run every year with the scale becoming larger and larger.
If you think you are a maker and have something to show, come and join us on 11 August 2012, 2pm – 6pm, at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Core P, Ground Floor, School Of Design, Studio PQ002. The application for Makers can be accessed here. The deadline is 10 July. Act now and prepare your works.
Of course, we welcome you as visitors to the Faire, check out the amazing assemblies you have never thought of or they may inspire you to become makers.
